Ouch

This morning I had an appointment with my dentist to fix a tooth that I’d cracked a few weeks ago, one that I’d previously had root treatment on a year or so ago. When it happened we decided that the best course of action would be to place a crown over the cracked tooth as it was something that was planned for the future anyway.

Unfortunately when I was there this morning, and after he had began the preparation work, we discovered that the root was too damaged from the previous root treatment to fit a crown, leaving us with only one option. We had to remove the tooth and fit a bridge over the surrounding teeth.

As you can imagine it wasn’t exactly what I was hoping to hear, but since it was the only option I nodded my head in agreement. Well I nodded it as much as it’s possible with a mouth numb from injections, full of implements, and someone’s hand in there.. anyway, after another injection to make sure I wouldn’t feel anything, he began to take the remnants of the tooth out.

Not a nice experience. While you really don’t feel any pain, there is a lot of pressure being applied to your jaw as he pulls, and rocks the tooth to get it out. It was possibly the worst start to a week I’ve had in a very very long time.

The injections are starting to wear off and even though I’ve taken a few painkillers, my mouth and face hurt like hell. I’m finding it difficult to concentrate on anything because of it.

I get to go back to the dentist next week to do some more prep work for the Bridge, but then I get to hang around for about four months with this huge gap where my tooth used to be. Thankfully because it’s a tooth that’s quite far back in my mouth no one should notice.

Now if only it would stop bloody hurting so much
