Ouch

by Chris Hamilton on 29 January, 2007 · 0 comments

This morning I had an appointment with my dentist to fix a tooth that I’d cracked a few weeks ago, one that I’d previously had root treatment on a year or so ago. When it happened we decided that the best course of action would be to place a crown over the cracked tooth as it was something that was planned for the future anyway.

Unfortunately when I was there this morning, and after he had began the preparation work, we discovered that the root was too damaged from the previous root treatment to fit a crown, leaving us with only one option. We had to remove the tooth and fit a bridge over the surrounding teeth.

As you can imagine it wasn’t exactly what I was hoping to hear, but since it was the only option I nodded my head in agreement. Well I nodded it as much as it’s possible with a mouth numb from injections, full of implements, and someone’s hand in there.. anyway, after another injection to make sure I wouldn’t feel anything, he began to take the remnants of the tooth out.

Not a nice experience. While you really don’t feel any pain, there is a lot of pressure being applied to your jaw as he pulls, and rocks the tooth to get it out. It was possibly the worst start to a week I’ve had in a very very long time.

The injections are starting to wear off and even though I’ve taken a few painkillers, my mouth and face hurt like hell. I’m finding it difficult to concentrate on anything because of it.

I get to go back to the dentist next week to do some more prep work for the Bridge, but then I get to hang around for about four months with this huge gap where my tooth used to be. Thankfully because it’s a tooth that’s quite far back in my mouth no one should notice.

Now if only it would stop bloody hurting so much

Time to Get Into Shape

by Chris Hamilton on 26 January, 2007 · 1 comment

It’s long past time I got myself into decent shape. Over the years I’ve gone from extremely fit and lean to overweight and unfit as hell.

Basically my diet is….well terrible, and there’s a distinct lack of exercise in my life at the moment, all of which has contributed to my weight being heavier than ever before.

A very bad situation indeed.

I had intended for my new fitness regime to be a New Years resolution, but quickly decided against that idea. January was going to be, (and has been), a very stressful month due to house moves, and working in London. So I made the decision to leave January as a month to slowly recover from X-Mas excess, and begin my training in February. A sort of buffer between lifestyles is the way I looked at it.

With February fast approaching I’ve spent the last couple of days slowly getting into the habit of eating properly, with several small meals instead of a couple of large meals, and making sure I put at least 30/45 minutes of cardio work on my exercise bike each night. I’m hoping that by slowly getting into a routine over the next week, that by February 1st I’ll be mentally prepared to begin training properly.

My aim is to lose a significant amount of weight and tone up before my trip to Vegas in April, and I thought that the best way to do that, would be to add my goals to the site. That way they’re up there in the public domain, and I’m hoping that by making them public It will push me that little bit harder to achieve them.

I’m intending on posting a weekly update on my progress, beginning on the 1st Feb and hopefully by April I’ll be lean and healthy again.

Wish me luck, I think I’m going to need it.

Adopting a Team

by Chris Hamilton on 24 January, 2007 · 0 comments

My friend Keith and I were recently talking about adopting an English 2nd Division side to support and add a little extra random excitement to our weekend football watching sessions. So once we know who exactly is going to be in the division next season we get to randomly pick a team from a hat, learn as much about them as we can and have another friendly rivalry as we do with the teams we genuinely support, I’m a Hibs man, and he supports Hearts.

It got me thinking, a strange endeavour for me I know, but I’m considering picking an MLS team to follow too. I have an NFL team, an NHL team, hell there’s even an MLB team that I support, I know pretty much nothing about baseball or hockey, but I support the teams all the same.

I love American sports and with the arrival of Beckham in LA it’s bound to add to their publicity and the coverage the MLS gets over here in the UK.

The question is who to support. It’s a tough question because when you pick your team you have to stick with them through the highs and lows.

I used to be a fan of players, and I would watch the teams they played for, without ever really supporting them. For example, before I had an NFL team, I was a big fan of Derrick Thomas, but not really a fan of the Chiefs, although it became a close thing. Then when he died, I really didn’t want to watch the Chiefs at all anymore. So I decided to choose a team over any players. That’s when I chose the Falcons who conveniently drafted a player that would become one of my favourite players in the league, Mike Vick.

It would be easy for me to pick a well known player, such as Freddy Adu, or Beckham and then support that team. I don’t really want to do it that way though. It ties your allegiance to players and not the club, which is the wrong way to go about things.

So who do I go with?… decisions decisions

I Want to Go Home

by Chris Hamilton on 18 January, 2007 · 0 comments

Working in London again this week really sucks. I just want to head back to Edinburgh and the comfort of my flat.

I’m sick of the sight of this place.

<sigh>

Tomorrow I get to leave, if the trains are running that is.

Full Tilt

by Chris Hamilton on 16 January, 2007 · 0 comments

I received a very cool, and unexpected email from Full Tilt the other day. A while back I had both Full Tilt and PokerStars banners up here as I’m an affiliate for both. Recently though I had removed the Full Tilt banner, simply because I was playing almost exclusively on Stars. That’s where my meagre bank roll was and so it was the one I decided to leave up when the site had it’s face lift a few months ago.

I didn’t really think anyone had signed up through either affiliate link, and so I never really worried about restoring the Full Tilt banner. Apparently I was mistaken. The email from Full Tilt was to inform me that someone who had signed up using my bonus code, (HAMILTON for those who wish to follow suit), had hit the desired number of player points and that I now had $65 available to use.

Sweet

So to mark this very unexpected event, I’ve re-added the banner to your left, (Scroll down a little if you can’t see it.), and I’ve began to spend more of my online poker playing time over on Full Tilt.

They’ve made a few changes to the interface, that I’m loving, and I’ll probably play some tournaments in the next couple of weeks with the very first affiliate payment I’ve ever had.

Free money is Hawsome!

*This post was potentially a link frenzy, but I dialed back the crazy linkage to each site because….well I’m lazy.*

I just watched the Apple MacWorld Keynote for the first time.

I’ve been reading about the iPhone for the last week, but hadn’t seen it in action for myself until this morning.

It is so cool.

I don’t think there is any doubt that it is a fantastic leap in technology over any of it’s rivals, and I also don’t think there’s any doubt that when it does ship here in the UK, that I’ll be desperate to get my hands on one.

I just hope they partner with a decent network, my personal preference would have to be Orange

So Glad To Be Heading Home

11 January 2007

Sweet Zombie Jesus! What a rough three days.

As always on my first day down in London I caught a cold that has spent the last three days kicking my ass. It’s not the worst cold I’ve ever had, but the perpetual coughing fits and the odd sneezing attack just tired me out. I don’t feel [...]

Single Table SNG Challenge

9 January 2007

In an effort to play more poker, and to develop my game, I’ve decided to set myself a little challenge. Basically I intend to play twenty $5 + $0.50 single table Sit-N-Go tournaments. Then once those twenty tournaments have been completed, depending on the results, I’m going to move up to the $10 + $1 [...]

The First Trip of the Year

9 January 2007

Once again I’m heading off down to London, and as you can see from the time of this post, it’s a fantastically stupid time of the morning.

The only real drawback of traveling by train is the time I have to wake up in order to catch the 05.50 to Kings Cross, I’m really not a [...]

Moving House – Update

8 January 2007

Well that was pretty painless.

I had forgotten to call BT a while back to arrange a new phone line, and with the story I heard from Ian I was a little worried that I would be without phone or the ability to get internet access for a few weeks.

Those fears were quickly put to rest [...]
