Funny of the Day

Published by Chris under post

Sitting in the flat tonight, while playing Pro Ev on the PS2 my flat mate Dave turns to me with a serious look on his face and says:

‘Remember, fan is short for fanatic. Hype is short for hyperbole, and Tom Cruise is short for a leading man.’

Needless to say I laughed so hard I nearly puked.

Two Whole Weeks

Published by Chris under post

I just looked at date on the last post, I can’t believe two weeks have passed already.
The last couple of weeks have just flown by in a complete blur. A lot has happened and yet at the same time nothing has happened, if that makes any kind of sense.
….

I’m not even sure I understand that last sentence

Anyway, there’s been a few notable things recently. [1]

The first being I turned 27 earlier this week. It was a rather uneventful birthday this year, which I was quite happy about. I had taken an extra few days off work over the Easter weekend which gave me 7 days straight off work, and one of these days was my birthday. The afternoon was spent chilling out with my little sister, having lunch, buying books, talking nonsense, the usual really. Then I went to play in my usual Tiesday night 5-a-side game. Which was ok, but I don’t think my heart was really in it this week. After that it was home, quick shower, taxi to the pub, all managed in half an hour. I met up with my two flatmates and a few other friends and had a nice relaxing Guinness or two to celebrate.

The second major event was the huge, and I mean HUGE fight my family had on Monday. Huge. In fact it’s such a shake your head, holy shit, can’t belive that happened, event that’s split the entire family that I’m going to post it seperately. It needs to be handled with care so I want to work pay careful attention when I write it.

The Easter weekend really just involved me getting drunk with various friends and family members over five days. It started on Thursday with dinner and drinks at a friend from works place, where the end of the evening is a little hazy. Friday was wake up, go to the pub with my flatmate, his brother, and dad. Lot’s of drinking, which ended at some point after midnight. Saturday was much of the same. I woke up with a screaming headache, grabbed a cab to the pool hall to meet my Dad, Uncle, and Sisters boyfriend. We played pool for a few hours, then Mark, (my Sisters boyfriend), and I sat around having a few beers and watching the football scores come in. Then we went for a quick drink in his local, which turned into 6 hours of booze and chat. Good fun.

The only problem with having so much fun over the Easter weekend was that I’m now totally broke/skint/poor/devoid of cash, you get the idea. Which is good in a way since I’ve got a lot of study and essay writing to do in the next few weeks and having no money means I can’t do anything else.

***

I’m going to leave it there for now. I’ll try to put some thoughts in order and the family argument post will be coming soon.

[1] Beware! Timeline fragmented. I’m writing this as everything comes to me so it could be all over the place….and probably will be, because my lazy ass won’t bother to edit it.

Can’t…Get…Enough!

Published by Chris under post

I was just reading Joanne’s latest post, when I scrolled down a little further and found an entry titled "Addictions and Stuff". I read it a while ago but didn’t really check out the link until today. The link takes you to this game and I defy anyone not to get hooked to it instantly. It’s such a simple but highly entertaining and addictive game.

I have to warn you though, if you have any important things to do in the next 3 or 4 hours, DO NOT click the link. Seriously..I’m not kidding…..

Robert Jordan

Published by Chris under post

I recently discovered one of my favourite authors, Robert Jordan, has been diagnosed with Amyloidosis. As he states on Locus Online:

"I have been diagnosed with amyloidosis. That is a rare blood disease which affects only 8 people out of a million each year, and those 8 per million are divided among 22 distinct forms of amyloidosis. They are distinct enough that while some have no treatment at all, for the others, the treatment that works on one will have no effect whatsoever on any of the rest. An amyloid is a misshapen or misfolded protein that can be produced by various parts of the body and which may deposit in other parts of the body (nerves or organs) with varying effects. (As a small oddity, amyloids are associated with a wide list of diseases ranging from carpal tunnel syndrome to Alzheimer’s. There’s no current evidence of cause and effect, and none of these is considered any form of amyloidosis, but the amyloids are always there. So it is entirely possible that research on amyloids may one day lead to cures for Alzheimer’s and the Lord knows what else. I’ve offered to be a literary poster boy for the Mayo Amyloidosis Program, and the May PR Department, at least, seems very interested. Plus, I’ve discovered a number of fans in various positions at the clinic, so maybe they’ll help out.)"

The The Wheel of Time is without question one of the most engaging and superbly written series I have ever read, and I’m eagerly looking forward to the last book, which is being written at the moment. I sincerely wish him the very best and hope he fully recovers from this. A talent like his doesn’t come along very often, and deserves the opportunity to share the worlds he has created and have them enjoyed by people all over the world.
