The Last Minute….Over

Published by Chris under post

I finally finished my assignment last night…..well actually this morning.

I stumbled into bed at 5am after writing all night, only to wake up a couple of hours later to come to work. I’m pretty tired at the moment but I’ll survive. I really shouldn’t do this to myself. I have plenty of time for the next assignment, one from my other course is due on the same date, which should be fun. I’ve resolved myself to making sure I do this next assignment properly and have it completed at least a week before it’s actually due, that way I give myself room to make changes and also so I don’t have to go through the stress of the last couple of days again.

Anyway, I’m at work and I’ve just had another super strength coffee handed to me. So I’m off to drink it and try to stay awake all day.

The Last Minute

Published by Chris under post

‘If it wasn’t for the last minute, nothing would ever get done.’
                                    - Me, all the bloody time.

Once again I’ve left most of my assignment for my Humanities course till the last minute. My next assignment is due on Friday and at the moment it’s just a big jumble of notes that have no real structure. Really all I need to do is find a way to properly start the essay and it’ll flow very quickly; Just like the last 6. The problem is breaking that initial barrier and starting the damn thing. I’m coming close to the end of the course and now would not be the time to make a total feck-up of things.

I’m quite looking forward to finishing this course now. It’s very interesting and has been fun, but I’ve been a little lacking in motivation since Christmas. I think it’s because the Creative Writing course has started and I really want to concentrate on that.

So the next few days are going to be coffee induced study sessions, that will hopefully allow me to do what I have to.

*** On a side note this blog has taken a back seat while I’ve been studying. Look for it in the next couple of months to be more than a dumping ground for me complaining about my lack of studying habits, and instead something I’m going to be proud of ***

Lacking in Motivation

Published by Chris under post

As I’ve mentioned many times I’m studying a couple of Open University courses. The first of the two courses I’m currently enrolled in is drawing to a close. I have three more essays to hand in and then it’s complete. The problem I’m having with it though is, I’m finding it more and more difficult to actually motivate myself to study.

The second course is a Creative Writing course which I’m enjoying tremendously but I just don’t have the time to fully apply myself to it. Due to this I’m finding that I struggle to complete the course work for either and I have to rush the essays. The first creative writing piece I handed in was very well received by my tutor so I’m hoping that I can take greater strides with it once the first course is finished.

I think having the two courses overlap and then trying to work full time too is just too much for me.

I really should get back to studying. I have just over a week to finish the part of the first course I’m working on and to get an essay written.

On a separate note ecto is very cool and I think I’m going to buy a license for it very soon.

Ecto

Published by Chris under post

After reading about Ecto on Wil’s blog I decided to trial it myself. I’m going on a trip through Europe in a couple of months and I want to be able to blog while I’m travelling. I had planned to just write up entries in Nisus and then copy and past them whenever I have an internet connection. With Ecto however, I’ll be able to post offline and then directly upload as soon as I have a connection, without all the extra messing around.

I’m not sure how good the software is yet so I’m going to use it for the 20 days trial period and then at the end of it make a decision whether to use it or not.

So far it seems pretty cool, but until I use it more I can’t be sure.

Tournament Result

Published by Chris under post

I played in a $3+ $0.30 tournament on Stars tonight. With 1476 players in the field it was going to be a tough proposition to get anywhere.

After some very smart poker, where I only had to put my tournament life on the line twice before busting out. I managed to finish 52nd. The prize money for 52nd was pretty low but I think the achievement of actually outlasting over 1400 people is a much greater reward when put in context. It’s the best performance I think I’ve ever managed, and if I’d won the coinflip that beat me I think I would have been in a good position to make it to the final table where the money reflects the achievement.

It’s been a really good warm up for the game tomorrow.
