Last night a few of the guys and I went down to our local pub for a few beers, (Guiness to be exact, which was then followed by a few JD and Coke’s…..), and a few games of pool. Since it was a Thursday night and I had to work this morning I decided to leave the pub and go home to bed….this was about midnight…I think.
As I got home I had the sudden urge to play some poker. Normally if I decide to play after I’ve been out drinking I’ll just play a “Play Money” Sit and Go tournament…except for some reason last night I entered a $5 + $0.50 Sit and go instead…
I actually didn’t do too badly, there were a few suspect decisions on my part but I was slightly judgement impared. After about an hour of play I’d somehow managed to get to the final table with a decent stack. After the first player had been knocked out I picked up a pretty decent hand, QQ. After a smal raise to try to get some action everyone folded except the Big Blind and another player. Flop came 10d Qd Jd …. I had a set, so when the action came back to me I put in another small raise…BB folded, other player raised. I called….it didn’t filter through my guiness soaked brain that this guy probably had a flush. The turn came…can’t remember what it was. I raised all-in to try to scare him out of the pot. He called…..Oh Shit!!!
My cards are turned over….then his…….he shows AKd………Royal Flush…
My jaw hit the floor. That’s the first time I’ve seen a Royal Flush playing on PokerStars and it could not have come at a worse time..So I ended the tournament in 8th place. Not bad really since I played drunk , but I was really pissed off that I was so stupid to walk into a hand like that. I came away with a good lesson though.
NEVER play poker for money when you’ve been drinking….idiot!!!!!
Well at least now I know…..and knowing is half the battle!
